Welcome to The Kelp Chronicles!
Hi there, and welcome to The Kelp Chronicles! I’m Malyssa, a marine conservation volunteer with a deep love for the Pacific Northwest and its incredible coastal ecosystems. If you’ve ever found yourself mesmerized by the sway of a kelp forest, fascinated by the creatures hidden in tidepools, or simply curious about the ocean, then you’re in the right place!
Why The Kelp Chronicles?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been drawn to the sea. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I spent countless hours exploring the shorelines, learning about marine life, and developing a passion for ocean conservation. Over time, I realized I wanted to do more than just admire the beauty of the Salish Sea—I wanted to be actively involved in protecting it. That’s where The Kelp Chronicles comes in!
This site is a space for me to document my journey as a conservation volunteer, share my experiences, and highlight the incredible work being done to protect our marine environments. Whether it’s through hands-on volunteer work, education, or simply spreading awareness, I believe every small effort helps.
An Exciting Journey Ahead
One of the biggest steps in my conservation journey is just around the corner! In March, I’ll be starting the WSU Beach Watcher and Naturalist program, an intensive training program focused on marine and coastal ecology in the Pacific Northwest. I’ll be learning from experts, participating in fieldwork, and gaining the knowledge needed to help protect and educate others about our local ecosystems. I can’t wait to share what I learn along the way!
Join Me on This Adventure!
As The Kelp Chronicles grows, I hope this space becomes a resource for anyone who shares my passion for the ocean. Whether you’re looking for volunteer opportunities, curious about local marine life, or just want to follow along on my journey, I’m excited to have you here!
Let’s explore, learn, and protect our waters together. 🌱💙
